I grew up in Seebergen, a small village next to Bremen in
Germany, attended school in Lilienthal and
Osterholz-Scharmbeck, then commenced studies at Bremen
University department of Culture and History of Eastern
European countries, department of Polish studies and
department of History... eventually becoming a specialist
in Ukrainian economics and politics. Subsequently
I went to Kyiv to teach German, I enjoyed the culture and
people and now find myself, 10 years later still in Kyiv, a
city which has become my home.
I am running a small business here in Kyiv which keeps me
quite busy and gives me
the opportunity for traveling. For now I
have an apartment in the city which I share with Malcolm a
New Zealander who worked many years in Japan, decided he
needed a rest from Asia and moved to the Ukraine.
I divide my time between working, politics, traveling,
sports and concerts. Kyiv, with all its beauty, is the
perfect place for it. The pearl of Eastern Europe. Dynamo
Kyiv, and Shakhtar Donezk are
playing regularly in Champions League, all
popular groups give concerts here, mostly for free at the
independence square. I am very much surprised at how many
German groups are giving concerts in Kyiv. Also the theater
scene is one of the best in the world.
However the highlight in Ukraine is the Crimean peninsula.
As much as possible, I try to spend my time there. I even
have running a business project in western Crimea.
